Garage doors, fitted properly
Four types of door, and the right one depends on your garage rather than on what we would like to sell you. Here is what each one does well, and what it does badly.
Most people come to us because a door has finally stopped working, or because the garage lets the whole front of the house down. Either way the first job is measuring the opening and looking at what is behind it — the lintel, the headroom, the side room and the state of the timber.
That survey decides the door. A sectional door needs room above the opening that some garages simply do not have. A canopy up-and-over needs space in front to swing. If your driveway is short, a roller door is usually the answer. We would rather tell you that on the doorstep than after the door is on order.

Measured before it is quoted
We measure the structural opening, the headroom and the side room, and check the lintel and the floor level. The quote comes after that, in writing, with the door and the operator named.
Old door taken away
The existing door, frame and any rotten timber go with us. Timber and steel are separated for recycling.
Made good, not left rough
New fixings into sound masonry, packers where the opening is out of square, and the reveal made good. If cladding would finish it better we will say so and price it separately.

Common questions
How long does a garage door take to fit?
A straight swap on a sound opening is usually a single day. If the timber surround has gone, or the roof and cladding are being done at the same time, allow two days.
Do I need a new frame as well as a new door?
Often yes. On older garages the door has usually outlasted the timber it hangs on. We check the frame at the survey and price it either way so you can see the difference.
Can you fit a door to an opening that is out of square?
Yes. Very few older garage openings are square. The door is set plumb and level and the gap is packed and trimmed so it looks deliberate.
What happens to my old door?
It goes with us on the day, along with any rotten timber we take out.
